Hope Kiah has been empowering freelance/creatives and small business owners since 1998. Webdesignbyhope was listed as one of the top 25 web design firms in New Mexico by the New Mexico Business Journal in 2002.

Like most web designers, Kiah's focus was initially on the look and feel of her designs, without much thought about search engines. Since Kiah's clients are freelancers and very small business owners, "brochure" or "gallery" sites seemed the most appropriate choice. These sites are still perfect for artists in particular, who are unlikely to make cold sales off the web. Buyers of art need to see the work in person first before they are willing to invest. So an online portfolio is perfect for keeping the new work in view after establishing the initial contact.
But in recent years Kiah started working with marketing manager Louise Roach of cleanairsys.com. Roach taught Kiah how to open the doorway to web searchers by "optimizing" web sites through careful consideration of niche markets and "long tail" keyword analysis and implementation, among other techniques. Together they built a site that ranked on page one of Google for a year. This business was absorbed and the site is not active, but the message was not lost on Hope.
